Ritter Nutrition was officially founded in 2004, however it all started when Andrew Ritter developed severe lactose intolerance at the tender age of nine. Even a teaspoon of dairy had him racing to the bathroom with debilitating side effects, making him afraid to eat at restaurants. As a result of not being able to digest dairy, Andrew’s twin brother soon outgrew and outweighed him—which was not only physically damaging, but also weighed heavy on his self-esteem. Andrew was sick more often than not, so he could not participate in sports and generally felt embarrassed by being lactose intolerant. Lactase pills, (which help lactose intolerant sufferers temporarily digest dairy); were not any kind of reliable solution since they only worked occasionally. Andrew’s life soon became consumed by what foods he could and could not eat and just how far away the bathroom was.

The medical community told him that his only hope was to stay away from dairy and that there was no way he would ever be able to tolerate dairy again. As a boy who missed ice cream cones and pizza parties with his friends, Andrew refused to accept his doctor’s prognosis and set off on a personal mission to create a solution for his lactose intolerance. Andrew began contacting leading lactose intolerant and digestive experts from around the world. With the help of researchers, experts, physicians and chemists, Andrew formulated, developed and tested alternative solutions to his lactose intolerance. Over time, he developed a product which alleviated his lactose intolerant symptoms. Andrew went from not being able to have any dairy products without discomfort to being able to have ice cream, pizza and cheese symptom free. Andrew has been able to have dairy products symptom free now for 12 years.
